Pudong airport starts 24-hour security for domestic departures
Released:2025-05-14

Shanghai Pudong International Airport has launched 24-hour security screening for domestic departures at both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 on May 10, enhancing convenience for late-night and transit passengers.

Following a successful trial run at Terminal 1 before the recent May Day holiday, the new service allows passengers to clear security at any time on the day of their flight. They can now check in, drop off luggage, and immediately proceed to the departure lounge.

Travel boom continues

Shanghai's air traffic continues to rise this year. During the May Day holiday alone, Pudong and Hongqiao airports served nearly 1.94 million passengers — an average of 387,000 per day — a 14.1 percent year-on-year increase. Domestic traffic made up the majority, while international numbers also surged, with daily volumes up 24 percent from last year.

Improved passenger experience

In response to positive feedback, Pudong airport expanded the 24-hour security service to Terminal 2 on May 11, with checkpoint lanes dynamically adjusted based on daily passenger volumes. Additionally, Pudong airport continues to enhance its dining, shopping, and rest areas, ensuring a convenient and comfortable wait for passengers.
